Vermont Four Square
Renovation
The hub of this c.1911 four square - its kitchen - was cramped and worn. The owners sought more space and explored an addition. However, deft moves within the home's existing footprint allowed the space to function more effectively without altering its pure and historic foursquare exterior, all while adhering to budget.
By recessing the refrigerator and pantry into a shared wall with a new bathroom, the kitchen gained much-needed space for expansive countertops and increased storage. A new mudroom from the back door leads to a bathroom and laundry room off the kitchen. The renovation of the upstairs bathroom rounds out the update of all the home's workhorse spaces, serving its family well into the future.
